Welcome back everyone to Day 2 of this awesome road trip. Our second day in Ohio didn't happen how we expected but we turned it around and made the most out of the time we had in the area. First we drove back to Hocking Hills, hoping to explore Old Man's Cave and Ash Cave, but when we arrived they were both closed to the public. Since we began to plan for this possibility, we turned back towards the motel to explore the local area of Logan where we were staying.
And would you believe it? There was a beautiful lake just four minutes from the motel. Lake Logan State Park; it was a perfect replacement for the sites we missed out on. The view was spectacular and since it was early still, the beach side of the lake was still empty and quiet. Our only neighbors there were a family of Canada geese enjoying the sand.
A couple of rented out fishing boats disrupted the silence but their waves added movement on the still surface. I wished I had a rod to see what fish lived in this lake but Ros was not having any of it. True city boy there. I decided to share this beauty and called mom from the lake side to show her the scenery and after expressing her love of our surroundings, she suggested to make the most of our day and visit the nearest city, Columbus, OH.
Without much of a second thought, we jumped into the car and drove the one hour to Columbus. We discovered a park called Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The entrance was really cute, with small bridge pathways over very blue waters. The evidence of wildlife was prominent as we had to carefully plan every step we took, but eventually we embraced the inevitable and walked freely. I saw a bunch of baby goslings in different stages and pointed out the differences to Ros, unable to shake my job even on my vacation. We came across an open air theater like the Greek style from ancient times, and Ros couldn't help himself with walking onto the stage area.
You can actually see him in this picture with his video camera. He's starting a brand new vlogging channel on YouTube to document our adventures to share with you and invite you to join us on our travels. It welcomes you behind the scenes, the in between moments when the road gets long, and the highlights of our adventures. Rossadventures will go live once we return to NYC and I'll be sure to share the link with you guys!
Continuing our trip, we stopped at a small local restaurant that felt like a Kennedy's Fried Chicken place from back home. Our bellies demanded food, and we figured why not eat something that we can't get back home. Fried catfish! It came with some fries, two slices of bread, and a fried shrimp basket. We combined some ketchup with some hot sauce and it was delicious! We pretty much drove back to Logan while we ate in the car to save time since we had special reservations for one more activity.
When we returned to the motel, we decided to rest up first before heading to a place called Hungry Buffalo, that we noticed the day before when we were looking for food. They had great food and a cute little gift shop attached to it. However, they had one more really cool thing to offer, axe throwing! We had done it once before for our birthday event back in January, so getting another chance to throw sharp objects at a target was always welcomed.
We felt we were a little rusty, but after the half hour mark, we started to get really competitive. Not gonna lie, Ros was whipping my butt for most of it, but I got to win at least one gain and you bet I enjoyed every second of it. He was a good sport and let me rub it in his face. I managed to get at least three bullseye during our hour there, and we can't wait to do this again in another half year. And that brings an end to Day 2. Let's see what tomorrow brings!
Seems like yall are really having fun :) but uh, get you a fishing rod and find some fish lol
