It's a Boy!

After so much waiting and endless speculation: It's a BOY! The day went by extremely fast on March 31st. I started my day with a simple call telling me that my blood work is ready for pick up and that among the genetic results, the baby's gender was in. I quickly arranged with my mom, who happened to be visiting me this week, to go with me to the city to go pick up the envelope we have all been dying to open.

When we finally made it there, I had to sit and wait for 5 minutes while they printed it out, but it felt like an eternity. I held the envelope against my chest the whole way to the car (partly because it was very windy and did not want it to fly away), but also because it was too precious for me to put in my pocket or stuff into my bag. I handed over the letter to my mother for safekeeping once we were in the car, so I wouldn't be tempted to take a peak.

I've always struggled with keeping secrets (the exciting happy kind of secrets) because I always want to share the good news with everyone around me. Therefore I tasked my poor mother, to be the keeper of the secret, and to enter Party City to get the balloons in a box that would be needed for that night. We weren't going to wait until the weekend, this needed to be experienced right away.

I sat impatiently in the car pending her return. Once she did we headed home and created the Zoom links to share and spread amongst my family and close friends. We had quickly cleared up the living room and found appropriate clothes for the gender reveal. Mom was extremely protective of the box and didn't let either one of us close to it, much less touch it. We broke the celebration into multiple groups so that calls wouldn't be too crowded, and each time we revealed the gender, it felt as special as the very first one. Considering how last-minute these plans were, I was happily surprised by the number of people that attended.

By the end of the night, we were buzzing from happiness and drained from digital hosting, but it was 1000% worth it. Now we know it's a "he" and that we are expecting a little Alec Rodriguez. Woot! Cheers to a healthy final stretch!
