Ah Summer time! It's so close yet feels so far, especially with the weather lately here in New York City. It has truly felt like fall lately with temperature drops and endless raining periods. But everyone I know is already day dreaming and making plans for when the temperature finally returns to the 80's and 90's where it should be.
So that made me think about making my own list! You know I love those. If you remember my last bucket list post about 25 items that were on there that I wanted to do within the next year, I've already made some progress on it! I've dyed my hair multiple times since the blue, its been pink, green and even purple. Purple was my favorite by far. Sadly for my new job I couldn't keep my color and I went with another first: blonde. Shamefully, it back fired on me even though I really enjoyed the color on me. Too many chemicals back to back fried my hair and I was forced to cut it almost all away. Leading to an unexpected first of have super short hair (and I'm loving it!).
I did the shooting range too, which I wrote about in detail as well as my deathly hallows tattoo experience. So far I'm already in the plans for the dinner party as well as visiting the Empire State building some point in June. So stay attentive for those!
But back to the reason this post is being written! Here are 10 things I want to do this summer!
1. Have an epic water gun fight with friends! Think about it: take a day to hang out at a public park, everyone armed with super soakers and baskets filled with water balloons. Break your friends up into teams and let the war begin. Add an delicious BBQ on the side or just enjoy the refreshing battle in the heat of the summer. I'm so in!
2. Visit a National State Park. This is something that I've actually wanted to do for a long time now. When I lived in Maine, my parents and I checked out Acadia National Park, but a drive through is not the same as a hike or a walk through the trails. There are so many national parks in our country, that it's only right we enjoy them and see why they are protected and cared for. Disappear into nature for a while.
3. Plant a small garden at my grandmother's grave. For me, this is a recent thought. I just visited my grandmother Carmen's grave and it seemed so bare and plain. I was told that she always loved colorful flowers, so the idea crossed my mind that perhaps I could take a day to plant some flower plants that can bloom yearly instead of a bouquet that will die within days. I think grandma would like that very much.
4. Go bowling! There's a really cool glow in the dark bowling alley in New Roc City that I enjoy visiting, and would love to do that with my friends this year. It's been a while so I wonder if I still have some skills left or if I'm going to gutter-ball my way through the rounds. Either way I know it can only be fun! Who knows, maybe I'll get the glow in the dark mini golf out of the way that same day!
5. Watch the fireworks at Coney Island during July! Do I really have to explain this one? Plus Luna Park is right there along the boardwalk!
6. Pack and enjoy a picnic in the park. Now this is something I could do alone, or with a date, or with a group of friends. From a solo meal, to a romantic meal, or a potluck with everyone I love. They all seem like wins to me! This would be nice to do in Central Park or Pelham Bay Park, or even Van Courtland park. New York has so many large parks to enjoy.
7. Visit an Amusement Park/State Fair. Usually I hate doing this because I'm not the biggest fan of roller coasters and for most places, that seems to be the primary goal for most people. But there are still all types of other fun things, like shows, water parks, and other rides that keep me relatively close to the ground. I'll even consider the scary houses and what not.
8. Paintball Fight! Although I have done it before, it wasn't in an official setting with full gear and field. I would love to do it properly and hopefully with backup!
9. Do a day trip to DC and be a tourist for a day! One of the beauties of living in NY, is that there are so many places full of history and culture that are just a days drive away. Salem, Boston, Hartford, Manchester, Cape Cod, DC, Niagara, etc.
10. And last but not least, Make a scrapbook full of my newly made summer memories. With modern tech, digital images and social media have completely replaced the classic photo albums that moms used to love pulling out during family reunions to reminisce all the memories. Why not bring a bit of that back to preserve in a special hands on way, all the new memories I plan to make this summer. Maybe I'll even invest in a Polaroid camera!
