I did it! I finally took the leap and committed to adding something permanent onto my body like I promised. My birthday is only 2 weeks away, but on Christmas Day I looked at my calendar and noticed that I would be completely booked until that very day. My only free day was Wednesday, December 26th. Since the goal was to get the tattoo for my birthday, I wanted to get it by my birthday. I took the leap and with some help, found a great place to get the deed done.
I ended up settling on an artistic twist on the Deathly Hallows symbol from Harry Potter. I felt that my first tattoo should be something important to me, and although I knew it was going to be a book reference, I wasn't able to choose between HP and Percy Jackson. My obsession for Greek mythology is strong and I do plan to eventually get a trident. However, I realized that the Harry Potter series means a lot more to me than just the words on the pages or the world it created for me in my youth.
Harry Potter was the first book series that I fell in love with the magic of losing myself into its world. It inspired me to learn to read just so I could read it on my own. I was took young to read the first books so my dad would read it to me before bed and I would fall asleep with images of wands, owls, and magic. Easy enough I could say that this could be traced back as the origin for my love of reading and therefore writing.
By getting this design, it's a tribute to my favorite series, as well as a reminder of my passion. The source of my love and aspirations will now and forever be part of my body and a constant reminder to never lose sight of that which truly matters to me.
Now Step 2: get mom to do hers! The Quest continues! One less thing on my bucket list from this year!
Keep checking off the bucket list!
