Ah, the billion dollar question of the millennial age: do you buy the physical book or the e-book? How about a little pros and cons game? Let’s start with the classic; books. I love how a book feels in my hands; its weight and texture, the new book smell of paper and ink, the sound of the hard cover as it closes the book, and so many other sensory attachments to it. For example; that slight panic that starts kicking in as you watch the amount of pages shrinking in thickness as you reach the end of the book, there’s nothing like it. Let’s not forget the excuse to buy new bookmarks! It’s slightly satisfying to see the small tassel hanging from the pages marking your progress in your conquest of the book. There’s also that pride that fills you when you look upon the growing collection of books on your shelf.
Then there’s the e-book, personally I have a Nook so I shall refer to it. How cool is it that you can carry hundreds…HUNDREDS…of books in your back pocket. If I’m traveling I’m so happy to take all the books I wish in my handbag and not be concerned that it will break my back or take up half my suitcase. Another cool feature is that the screen lights up, so I can finally read in bed without having to worry about turning off the light when I get sleepy. I can get good books for cheap prices, saving me tons of cash over time, and trust me, I feel it! One hardcover book can be up to $28 but the same book could easily be under $10. BookBub gets me good books for 99 cents at times! I managed to get Percy Jackson book one for only $1.99; you can bet that I took that offer!
But there are two things that are true for both sides: 1) The story will still transport you to another world, and 2) when you read on your back and you accidently drop it on your face, it will still hurt! Whichever side you are on, don’t forget to enjoy it!
Personally, I tend to lean more towards physical books. Partly because I grew up with them, and I'm stubborn enough to stick with them. But mostly because, I rarely know about a book before stumbling across it in a bookstore and either decide to take a chance on it, or get it on a whim. But, I do fully realize that switching to digital books could easily help me avoid my near constant problem of seeing there's only a few pages left, looking at the clock to see it's 9PM and going "Eh, I can finish this book in an hour." only to find myself still awake at 2AM trying to finish it.
But, to get back on topic, I…
