Many people have lost a lot these past two years. We've lost loved ones, careers, homes, and others have lost themselves. How we deal with loss determines how we heal or grow from the experience. In memory of all those no longer with us.
I followed the same rules; I incorporated the 8 words provided for the theme within the piece.
destitute
waste
grief
cost
lacking
need
mourning
defeat
There has been so much mourning,
eyes dried up without any tears left.
How do you say goodbye?
How do you move on,
when you thought they would be by your side?
It is too easy to give in to our grief,
too tempting to curl up in the darkness.
You start to think of all the potential gone to waste,
all those lives cut too short.
We can't allow ourselves to feel defeat,
for we are still alive.
Whether we were left behind,
or struggling to keep going,
there is a need to push forward.
We know something is lacking deep within us,
but time stands still for nobody.
Don't let the loss leave our hearts destitute,
for it will cost us more than death.
We must live on for those that can't,
and live it better in their honor.
Do the things they couldn't do,
or make the changes in our own lives,
to fill the space in the hole left behind.
The sun will rise again,
for when our own time comes,
someone else will shed tears for us.
We will be resting and gone,
and then it is their turn to grieve.
