The Innocence Game Review

Updated: Nov 10

Let me start off with a big sorry! School has kept me busy but I have not stopped reading! I have this report and another ready to post so stay tuned! So let's get started on #10 A Thriller or Mystery!

Ian Joyce, a quiet young man who has kept to himself all through undergrad and worked his way to where he is; Sarah Gold, a young woman with brains to match her beauty; and Jake Havens, the natural genius with a talent to find trouble. These three brilliant students all end up in a special class at their university, all chosen to take part in a seminar to study and prove the innocence of a criminal who has been charged guilty. When Havens comes to the class with a case already in mind, the focus on saving a living guilty man shifts to saving the reputation of a dead one. Could the convicted killer of a ten-year-old boy be innocent? Wouldn’t that mean that the actual killer was still alive and at large? When a new body is discovered in the woods with a similar signature, the students discover that their case is more than just a class project. Lives are at stake and their own might be as well.

For all those CSI, Criminal Minds, and NCIS lovers, this book is what you have been looking for. I have never read a book like this before, and I’m excited to read more like it. This thriller took me on a roller coaster ride through clues, conspiracy, secrets, and revelations. Just when you think you know what is about to happen, you are given a new piece of information that changes everything you just finished putting together. This jigsaw puzzle of a narrative was entertaining and exciting to read. You can’t predict this novel, and let me tell you how refreshing it is to find a book like this. Michael Harvey is an expert in detective fiction. He truly grasped the art of suspense and how to not give the reader too much at once. If you want to be challenged in your detective skills, this is the novel of the year for you!

I will rate this book a 4.6 out of 5 simply because it took a bit to get the ball rolling, but after the fourth chapter it turned into the snowball effect. Loved it!

The next book is #1 on my reading challenge: A book with more than 500 pages; The Host, by: Stephenie Meyer.
