In honor of the Lunar New Year that is approaching, I was inspired to write several poems about the mysterious and vast celestial bodies. This first one will be about the night sky which was one of the poems in my flash poetry book!
- stars
- blackness
- moonlight
- midnight
- pitch
- constellations
- glimmer
- wakeful
Another wakeful night,
unable to grasp and retain my sleep.
I walk out to my yard,
and look up at the sky for guidance.
What a vast blackness above me,
not a dot of light in sight.
Suddenly the power goes out,
the stars are freed and can be seen.
The moonlight finally sifts through,
cutting the darkness delicately.
Darkness fills the once lit spaces,
letting my eyes adjust once more.
Suddenly I can see them,
moving like they are alive.
Constellations are appearing in my vision,
one by one taking their strides.
They glimmer and sparkle with life,
fueled by billions of years worth of energy.
Each tells a story,
of how they were trapped in the sky.
I listen and lay beneath them,
as they dance across the sky.
I feel the cosmos swirl above,
and when the clock strikes midnight,
my sleep is ready to take hold.
I love it
