I really enjoy flipping these challenges and trying to make them something deeper than just a writing exercise. Every time you write something, you should try to give it meaning or at least a question to make the reader ponder. What good are words, if you aren't saying anything of value?
I followed the same rules; I incorporated the 8 words provided for the theme within the piece.
trove
precious
rare
wealth
value
abundance
fortune
cache
What comes to mind when you hear the word...Treasure?
Perhaps a cache of gold coins?
A chest filled with precious stones?
Or maybe a wealth beyond your imagination?
Pirate stories have always had these.
But, what do you do with so much treasure?
They had so much they had to bury it.
A fortune they could not spend in a single lifetime.
What value would such abundance have today?
I might not have gems or gold, or lost relics,
but I do have treasures that are priceless.
Something more rare than any long-forgotten trove.
I have health,
I have family,
I have purpose and drive,
I have a roof,
I have food every night,
I have clean water on tap.
I have a job,
I have power,
I have air to breathe.
I have treasures so many wish they had,
things that wars are fought over for,
things people kill for.
I take them for granted, as most do,
but when you realize the treasures you have:
things like diamonds, silver, and coins, mean nothing to you.
I have treasures that haunt peoples dreams,
things they wish they could obtain.
But I know now that I'm rich beyond means,
and the things that trouble me,
are insignificant in a true light.
Look around you,
what treasures do you have?
What items and pleasures do you take for granted?
Don't bury them in the sand,
don't sell them for paper.
Enjoy your riches, and share them with those that lack them.
True treasures are priceless,
but it doesn't mean they don't have value.
You are so right about what the true treasures in life are. I am so proud of having a daughter that can appreciate the true meaning of the biggest richness a person can possibly have. I thank God for the most precious jewel that I have in the whole world, You!
